We have some great news! The Toronto Zoo has announced visitors will be able to experience the zoo in a unique way they have never before. The Toronto Zoo will become a drive-thru zoo as soon as the Ontario Government gives the green light to reopen.
“The plan is to have people stay in their vehicles — start in the parking lot and literally drive through our front entrance and use the walking paths and zoo mobile route to get a behind-the-scene unique experience,” according to Toronto Zoo CEO Dolf DeJong.
Each year, around 1.2 million people visit the Toronto Zoo. Needless to say, this year is very different and the zoo is trying to find alternatives to ensure the animals are safe and everyone can still enjoy a visit to the zoo!
One of the biggest challenges for the Toronto zoo was to secure their food budget for the animals, usually costing the park over a million dollars per year. Luckily, donors have raised over $600,000 through the donation program put in place by the zoo officials.
