Film buffs rejoice! A massive 181 000-square-foot Hollywood film studio is coming to the Toronto area in early 2021! Canadian production company William F. White International is behind the construction which will include four giant sound stages in order to meet the demands of big-name Hollywood film companies and streaming giants that are increasingly looking to the GTA for production facilities.

The Whites Studios Cantay facility in Mississauga will be the division's second studio location in Toronto, after their primary location on Edwards Blvd, and the company’s eighth property in Canada. Whites isn’t the only production company investing in the Six. Their Mississauga location is close to where CBS recently built and opened their own TV and film studio in 2019 to produce content for the CBS All-Access streaming platform. And Netflix also launched a Toronto production hub in 2019, renting out four sound stages each at Pinewood and Cinespace Film Studios.
It seems like this is only the beginning for Toronto to become the “Hollywood of the North”! As Whites CEO and Co-Founder Paul Bronfman told the Hollywood Reporter, “Our primary Toronto location, Whites Studios Edwards Blvd., is already booked solid and our clients require additional stages.”
In 2019, Hollywood productions spent a whopping $1.12 billion in Toronto! Some of the big-name productions that were shot in the Six include Hulu’s critically acclaimed The Handmaid’s Tale, Netflix's Umbrella Academy, CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery, and Amazon Prime's The Expanse.
